Why does edge processing matter before tempering?

Edge processing covers the arrissing, grinding, and polishing operations that remove the sharp edge left after cutting and prepare a panel's perimeter for its next process, whether that is tempering, lamination, or direct installation. An unprocessed cut edge is a stress point: it can initiate cracks during handling or thermal cycling, so edge quality is treated as a control point rather than a finishing step. KH Glass Group performs edge processing in-house immediately after cutting, within the same Çatalca facility, so edge geometry is set before a panel reaches the tempering furnace or lamination line rather than being reworked afterward. Edge finishes range from flat ground to polished, depending on whether the panel will be visible in the final installation or captured within a frame. For safety glass processed to EN 12150 or EN 1863, correctly finished edges reduce the likelihood of edge-origin breakage during tempering, which is why the process runs under the same quality system as the rest of production.
