What size panels can be tempered and to what standard?
Tempering is a thermal process that heats glass close to its softening point and then rapidly cools the surface, creating a state of compression at the surface balanced by tension in the core. The result, fully tempered glass, is several times stronger than annealed glass of the same thickness and, if it breaks, fractures into small, blunt fragments rather than sharp shards, which is why building codes require it in safety-critical locations such as balustrades and overhead glazing. KH Glass Group's tempering line, part of its Çatalca facility, processes fully tempered glass up to 2580 × 6000 mm, covering the large-format panels used in curtain wall and facade projects, and certifies output against EN 12150. Where a project specification calls for heat-strengthened rather than fully tempered performance, the same line produces semi-tempered glass to EN 1863. Because tempering follows cutting, edge processing, and any CNC machining within the same facility, panels reach the furnace only after their final geometry has been confirmed, avoiding rework on already-tempered glass.
